IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE!!!
What I am referring to is my final senior year of college. I felt the need to specify FINAL because it’s my second senior year. It seems like it was just yesterday that my senior year of high school started and ended. Yet, at the same I have experienced so many things, met numerous people, gone places, changed and grown that high school seems like a lifetime ago. The way time passes is crazy! It flies, yet there has been so much that has happened its hard to believe that it all fit in 4 years.
I’ve been thinking a lot about my senior year of high school and how hard and stressful it was to pick a college. There were definitely things I wish I would have done differently like: (1) I would have started looking and applying to schools before January and February. Procrastinating did not help with the stress! (2) I would have applied for more scholarships. Free money is great. I could use more of it! (3) I can actually only really think of those two things right now…. BUT looking back on what I wished I would have done is changing the way I look at graduate school now. The biggest difference between the two is that when you go to college for an undergraduate degree it is ok to not know exactly what you want to do. I did, but a lot of people don’t. That’s fine. BUT when you go get a graduate degree, you have to know exactly what you want! I knew what I wanted in my undergrad, but I can’t decide what to do for my graduate degree! The good news is that there is time.
My athletic training class (there are 7 of us) had one of our grad students come talk during our GRE study time this week. It was good to hear about how she looked for schools and set up her criteria. For all you students looking at undergrad or grad schools, I think she had a really good plan. Make a list of what is important to you. It will be different for everyone! But find what matters the most to you and go from there. That’s my plan! I’ll let you know how it goes!
Have a great day!
